MARTIN PAWLITSCHEK
Senior VP Geology
DESCRIPTION
Martin is Senior Vice President of Geology for Appian*. He is responsible for undertaking technical due diligence on mining projects, mainly from a geology and resource risk perspective, but with a concurrent focus on exploration upside evaluation. Martin has over 20 years of experience primarily in exploration and resource drilling.
Prior to Appian, Martin served a 11-year tenure with BHP Billiton, where he oversaw numerous exploration programs in Australia, Laos and many countries in Southern and Central Africa. Later in his career with BHP he was responsible for the technical aspects of establishing several new business opportunities in the diamond sector in Botswana, South Africa, Angola and DRC. The Angolan projects resulted in the discovery of several large, diamond-bearing kimberlites. The Botswana and DRC projects produced two separate listed exploration companies which raised significant funds for kimberlite exploration program.
Martin later joined one of the junior companies seeded by BHP and progressed an ambitious diamond exploration program in the DRC. This effort delineated several focussed,  high potential kimberlite indicator mineral anomalies with distinct macro diamond populations. This was followed by a move to Senegal where he was part of a team that fast tracked the Sabodala gold project from an exploration prospect to producing mine over a three year period. He lead the exploration efforts on the company’s regional land package, which resulted in additional high grade mill feed from satellite open pits.
Martin is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Geoscientists, holds an M.Sc. from the University of New South Wales, Australia, a B.Sc. in Applied Geology from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. He is fluent in English and German and has a working level of French and Spanish.
