DESCRIPTION
Mr. Silva is a Senior Advisor at Appian, assessing and assuring Appian’s portfolio companies on safety, environmental and community matters. Mr. Silva is also a trustee of the Appian Way Charitable Foundation.
He has had a 40 plus years international career in leadership roles in energy and natural resources companies, including Petrobras, BG Group, BHP Billiton, and Vale. From June 2016 to December 2018, Mr. Silva served as Chief Strategy and Performance Officer and member of the Executive Team of Petrobras. Mr. Silva led the implementation of a new strategic plan and management system at Petrobras, which contributed to a 50% reduction of recordable incidents and of net debt / EBITDA ratio. Over the period, Petrobras’ market cap increased fourfold reaching US$100 billion. Prior to Petrobras, Mr. Silva served as the CEO of BG Group in South America for 7 years during which he managed a US$30 billion joint capital investment with Petrobras and other partners which led BG Brasil to become the largest private oil & gas producer in Brazil. Mr. Silva was also President of the Aluminum business unit and Marketing Director of Carbon Steel Materials of BHP Billiton, and before that, he was Marketing and Sales Director of Vale, where he oversaw annual sales of 250 million tons of iron ore.
At present, Mr. Silva is also an independent board member of Nutrien Ltd. (Canada), Compass Group Plc. (UK) and Altera Infrastructure (Norway).
