Shawn McCormick is Appian’s Senior Advisor for Africa. He has over 30 years of experience working on the continent.

Mr. McCormick’s previous roles include Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council in The White House in Washington, Africa Regional Advisor and Senior Global Affairs Advisor for BP in London, and Corporate Vice President for International Affairs at TNK-BP in Moscow.

Mr. McCormick is currently the Managing Director of a London-based strategic consulting firm focused on the natural resources sector in Africa and beyond; he has a particular speciality in “above ground risks” including government relations/delivering high-level political access/leverage as well as corporate reputation protection.

Mr. McCormick serves on several Boards including as Chairman of Trinity Metals (Rwanda/tin, tungsten, tantalum and lithium), Non-Executive Director of LSE-listed Rainbow Rare Earths (South Africa and Burundi), and Non-Executive Director of Karo Resources (Zimbabwe/PGMs).
