VP of Operations
DESCRIPTION
Based in London, David is the VP of Operations at Appian and is responsible for undertaking technical due diligence on mining projects, principally from an engineering and mining perspective.
David has 27 years of experience in underground and surface mining operations from resource definition to production, predominantly within base and precious metals, the last 11 years as Group Mining Engineer for Lundin Mining. During his career David gained expertise in the design, scheduling, budgeting, financial evaluation, construction and operation of mining assets.
Prior to joining Appian, David briefly worked as a Mining Risk Engineer in the insurance sector, conducting site risk surveys, estimating potential losses and recommending risk reduction measures. Previous to this, David was the Group Mining Engineer for Lundin Mining which encompassed providing technical support to the existing operations, acting as the Qualified Person for Mineral Reserves, managing PFS / FS studies for mine expansions and undertaking due diligence on the mining aspects of potential acquisitions. Before he joined Lundin, David spent a few years working as a mining consultant for Golder Associates. Preceding this, David held managerial roles in Australia and South Africa for Rio Tinto whilst involved in the design, construction and operation of their block cave mines.
David is both a British and Australian citizen and has lived and worked in three continents. David is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, and has a New South Wales Certificate of Competency as a Production Manager of a Below Ground Mine. He holds a PhD in Rock Mechanics and a BEng (Honours) in Mining Engineering from the Camborne School of Mines.
