Juan is a Director of Metallurgy and Processing at Appian based in Dubai. Juan has over 30 years of experience, including General Management, Business Development, Plant Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Production Planning, Geometallurgy, Metallurgical Accounting, Plant Flowsheet Design, Project Commissioning, Plant Start-up and Process Improvement.
Juan has held positions such as VP Technology, Technology Director, Company Director-owner, Manager Mineral Processing, Plant Manager, and Interim GM, among others. Juan is a QP and led the Atalaya Mining NI 43-101 update. He has experience in Cu, Mo, Zn, Pb, Co, Au, Ag, Ni, coal and exposure to PGMs. Juan is an accomplished generalist in mining but at the same time a world-class expert in several fields such as crushing, grinding, flotation (reagents, hydrodynamics), mine to mill, geometallurgy and dewatering, among others.
Juan is a graduate of Universidad de Atacama in Chile, where he obtained 2 degrees: Engineering Bachelor and Master’s of Metallurgy. He also finished an MBA at Universidad de Chile, and he is a Master Black Belt trained in Falconbridge Canada. He is a Professional Engineer certified in Ontario, Canada.
