Alex is Appian’s Chief Operating Officer for Base Metals.

Prior to joining Appian, he was Chief Operating Officer (South America) and Vice President Resources at Albemarle Corporation based in the United States. An Australian national, he has comprehensive operational, corporate and project experience across several commodity groups with some of the world’s largest mining and vertically integrated organizations.  

Alex started his career in underground base metals operations in North Queensland, Australia and has since had extensive global experience with joint ventures, early stage project development, permitting, community engagement, strategic planning and mining operations. He has lived, worked or been involved with the asessment of resources in Australia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, USA, Canada, Brazil and parts of Europe.

Alex holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) (Hons) from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, a 1^st Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Queensland)  and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
