JOSÉ MONTOYA
Senior Vice President, Latin America
DESCRIPTION
José Montoya is Appian’s Senior Vice President for Latin America*. José is based in Lima and is responsible for undertaking technical due diligence on mining projects, sourcing investment opportunities for the Fund, leading evaluations, deal structuring and executing transactions in the region.
José is a mining engineer and MSc in mineral economics, with 26 years of experience in management, operations and planning for underground and open pit mines, in base metals and gold. He has also held executive responsibilities for business development and commercial management in the mining industry.
Throughout the course of his career, José gained solid knowledge in mine management, operations, and planning, in conjunction with experience in business development, strategy and finance applied to the mining industry. During his 10-year tenure with Volcan, while leading corporate development and performing as a technical manager, José was involved in exploration, feasibility studies, reserve definition, planning, budgeting, operations, mine management and financial evaluations.
Prior to joining Volcan, he worked with Votorantim Metais Peru as Manager for Business Development, co-leading the acquisitions of the Milpo and Atacocha mines and worked at Minera Yanacocha, were he held operational positions.
He holds a MSc. from Colorado School of Mines, a General Management Program from Harvard Business School, and BSc. in Mining Engineering from the Catholic University, Peru. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
