DESCRIPTION
Khathutshelo (“K2”) Mapasa is the Head of Africa for Appian. K2 is based in Johannesburg and is responsible for establishing and strengthening Appian’s relationships in Africa, with the primary objective of sourcing potential investment opportunities that align with Appian’s objectives. His responsibilities include assisting in the due diligence process, the execution of transactions, presentation of the new investment opportunities to the Investment Committee and providing operational oversight with Appian’s portfolio companies in Africa. K2 is also responsible for promoting Appian’s value proposition and increasing its visibility within the continent by leveraging his extensive networks and knowledge of doing business in Africa.
K2 is an Engineer and an experienced executive with over 24 years’ experience in mining, engineering and construction services having held strategic, technical support, operations, and projects positions. He has record of delivering results in business growth, capital raisings, debt restructuring and distressed business management.
Prior to joining Appian, K2 was the CEO of Basil Read Group, a South African based conglomerate which operates in Construction, Mining, Engineering and Property Development Services. He also spent over 14 years in De Beers Group of companies across mining operations roles, technical support, marketing, and executive support.
K2 holds a B.Sc. Engineering (Chemical) degree , from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and completed the Program for Management Development from Harvard Business School, USA. He is a Member of the Institute of Directors Southern Africa and the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He also serves as a non-executive Director in several listed and unlisted companies.
