Head of Sustainability (Base Metals)
DESCRIPTION
Emma is Head of Sustainability at Appian’s Base Metals group, overseeing all aspects of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. Reporting to the Head of Base Metals, she manages sustainability efforts, permitting, government and community relations, as well as health, safety, and environment (HSE) aspects for the Base Metals team.
Before joining Appian, Emma spearheaded the development and execution of comprehensive ESG strategies tailored to the mining sector at La Mancha Resource Capital. Prior to her tenure at La Mancha, she served as the Director of Sustainability at Centerra Gold, where she was responsible for social performance at their British Columbia sites. Emma’s earlier experience includes contributions to social performance and community relations at Agnico Eagle Mines, most recently with the Nunavut division.
With over 15 years of experience in sustainability and social performance within the mining industry, Emma brings extensive operational expertise in navigating ESG challenges. She brings extensive experience in community development planning, ESG risk assessment, and the implementation of sustainability strategies across all phases of the mining life cycle and has a demonstrated history of driving sustainable practices and fostering positive relationships with Indigenous nations, communities, industry/stakeholders and government bodies.
Emma studied Political Science at the University of Western Ontario and has an Executive MBA from McGill University & HEC Montréal.
