William is a Senior Operating Partner at Appian. He is based in Australia and responsible for providing operational oversight with Appian’s portfolio companies and advice with the analysis and evaluation of potential investments.
William is a Senior Operating Partner at Appian. William has nearly 30 years of experience in the mining industry with an emphasis on mineral processing. He has delivered value to operations across the globe through technical, operational and project leadership. This has been achieved across many commodities, including base metals and associated gold and PGM, bauxite and alumina, bulk commodities (iron ore, coal), industrial minerals and diamonds.
Immediately before joining Appian, William was successfully consulting to industry clients; providing due diligence on significant capital expenditures and M&A projects in Australia, North America, Africa and Asia.
Previously, William spent 25 years working at Rio Tinto; experiencing many roles in the organization from plant engineer to Chief Advisor Processing Productivity. In these roles, he was responsible for leading global teams in the identification, development and execution of local and global business transformation initiatives and productivity improvements delivering billions of dollars in value across 81 global operations. In his corporate technical role, he was also responsible for global practice development and governance, as well as technical evaluation for project development and execution, due diligence for M&A and divestment, as well as evaluation of economic inputs.
